Empowering Young People
Who Do Good
When it comes to creating a bright future, there’s no group who will benefit more than today’s young people.
Today’s youth are many things: impressionable, curious, motivated, caring and optimistic, to name just a few. When you combine those characteristics with a passion for helping others, whether locally or in a far-off place, it deserves recognition.
We were proud to partner with international charity Free The Children that kicked off at We Day California, the organization’s signature event, on March 26, 2014 in San Francisco. We Day is unique thanks to its twist on how kids can snag a seat at the star-studded affair: They can’t buy tickets, but instead have to earn their way in by contributing to a cause near and dear to their hearts.
At We Day, Unilever Project Sunlight kept our mission of building a bright future alive by encouraging kids to share their vision of hope. It’s simple – those looking to participate just submitted their ideas on how to improve their own communities. Ten students received Bright Future Grants, and the recipients were announced in April 2014.
New ideas and viewpoints aimed at improving the quality of life are always welcome, especially outside-the-box ones that young people’s imaginations can dream up. Small steps can make a big difference in the grand scheme of things. These grants are designed to help make those ideas a real possibility. Being able to facilitate the next big idea in sustainability, technology, community organization or other areas that better the lives of others is a privilege, especially when it encourages others to think in the same manner.
