Seven Billion Dreams, One Planet:
World Environment Day
Take sustainable action with thousands around the world this June 5th for World Environment Day.
World Environment Day is a holiday to encourage environmental action and awareness. The day is now celebrated in more than 100 countries, and this year’s theme, “Consume with Care,” will focus on protecting and preserving our natural resources.
At Unilever, we’re dedicated to sustainability as well. We are aiming to halve our environmental footprint by 2020 by following the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan and actions like sustainable sourcing and reducing packaging waste.
But we know that real change will require everyone’s help. World Environment Day is the perfect time to commit to making the change the world needs and creating a brighter future.
Every Action Counts
Whether you register your activity to be counted and inspire others, or simply take action with your family and friends, we’ve got some ideas for making a simple, positive impact:
• Carpool to work or school with your friends and neighbors to help reduce CO2 emissions.
• Start composting your yard waste and household scraps, like coffee grounds, to help reduce methane from landfills.
• Wash clothing in cold water by and line dry your laundry to save energy.
• Install compact fluorescent bulbs which can be up to 75% more efficient than normal incandescent lightbulbs.
These individual actions may seem small, but they add up. As the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, said, “when billions of people join forces in common purpose, we can make a tremendous difference."
If you’re looking for more ways to contribute this World Environment Day—and everyday—we’ve got you covered with sustainability kickstarters and a minimalist cheat sheet. You can even reimagine bathroom recycling for another easy, yet important, eco action. However you get involved, your sustainable steps can help pave the way to a cleaner world for all.
