Enactus Students Take Action
To Create A Bright Future
We’re partnering with university students to create sustainable solutions to tackle hunger in America.
Investing in and empowering the young leaders of today has been a key focus for Unilever, be it through Bright Future Awards, our participation at We Day and beyond. So when the opportunity to partner with the international nonprofit organization, Enactus, arose, it was a perfect fit. Now in its second year, we’re excited and honored to support the Bright Future Project Partnership - a program awarding grant funds to Enactus teams that are creating innovative solutions and creating real, lasting change to address the root causes of hunger in America.
Creating Change, Together
Last year alone, 20 Enactus United States teams impacted more than 33,000 people by applying an entrepreneurial approach to empower food insecure communities. We saw this type of mindset—so closely aligned with ours—and did not hesitate to support the organization. Through these projects, Enactus teams worked side-by-side with people in need to tackle challenges, such as unemployment and lack of access to healthy, nutritious food. Then, along with representatives from Enactus, we reviewed impact reports to determine the most successful projects.
The top three projects are:
La Sierra University - Riverside, CA Enactus
To help families living in “food deserts,” the team partnered with local organizations to transform an old city bus into “Mobile Fresh,” a mobile grocery store that brings affordable, fresh produce and health education to more than 1,500 regular customers. Those customers are now able to save 30% on their groceries.
Blue Ridge Community College – VA Enactus
The team designed and implemented a repeatable six-week program for low-income elementary school children to deliver nutrition, education and engaging activities, such as cooking demonstrations, grocery store visits and gardening.
Stratford University – Baltimore, MD Enactus
The team took action to empower unemployed individuals, including veterans, by creating a series of cooking classes to teach participants how to make healthy meals on a limited budget, while discussing employment opportunities, job preparedness and budgeting.
Unilever is excited to continue our partnership with Enactus United States over the next year so that we can empower even more students to help their communities create brighter futures.
