What is an act of sunlight

Project Sunlight is a growing movement of people who believe in the power of taking action.

Whether it’s viewing and sharing with friends an inspiring film, boosting the self-esteem of young women, making a donation to a food bank, we think that every single action can make a real difference.

We invite you to make your contribution by exploring our website, see the possibilities and take action on the projects that inspire you.

Shampoo Bottle Caddy

Re-Model Your

Shampoo Bottle

No need to toss it! Turn that empty shampoo bottle into a decorative and convenient caddy with this fun, family activity.

Before you toss the next empty bottle into the recycling bin, save it for a fun activity for the summer! Try up-cycling that can make use of empty plastic bottles.

As a part of our Sunlight Activities series, our next one is all about clean, crafty convenience. Just follow the step-by-step instructions below and turn your empty Suave® or Dove® bottle into a handy caddy for everything from keys to mobile phones—a craft that’s perfect for you and the kids to create for everyone in the house.

What You’ll Need:
- Empty and clean shampoo, conditioner, or lotion bottle. (Helpful tip: the flatter the bottle, the better, as the caddy will rest closer to the wall and out of the way.)
- Scissors
- Sandpaper
- Paint and a paintbrush
- Stickers/markers/decorative paint or nail polish (to make the caddy look nice at the end)

What To Do:
Step 1: Cut top off the bottle (the end with the spout) and leave about eight inches remaining of the original bottle.

Step 2: Mark the cutting lines on the bottle using a marker or pen. The back of the bottle will be turned into the handle that will hang, while the front of the bottle needs to be cut into a “pouch” high enough to prevent contents from falling out.

Step 3: Cut along the markings using scissors. Make sure to leave enough space—at least two inches in width—between the top of the hanger and the hole to provide the hanging strength. PS—when cutting along the pen markings, try and keep the edges as rounded as possible along the curved parts.

Step 4: Use the sandpaper to smooth over any rough edges.
Step 5: Paint the caddy a solid color, then decorate as desired using stickers, markers, glitter, or any fun add-ons you’d like to see on your caddy!

Step 6: Hang on a nearby hook or door handle.

And that’s it! You’ve just created your very own eco-friendly (and stylish) caddy to hold all those items that seemed so hard to keep track of. We’d love to hear about your progress on the Sunlight Activities, so join the conversations using the hashtag #brightfuture.
